We started going through things this weekend – placing keepers in an open suitcase, putting give away stuff in hallways, thinking about being purposeful, and generous, and utilitarian…and about leaving in two weeks. As I was going through a drawer, I came across one of the notebooks that I brought with us a year ago. One of those that you grab when you need something to randomly jot in – notes, thoughts, or information. There is no rhyme or reason to it – just scattered pages held together by a binding. But as I leafed through it this afternoon, I found that it tells a tale – a tale of my life in a singular binding. Pieces of my life’s composition in a composition notebook. So I figured, why not my life’s snapshots in snapshots (feel free to zoom in on the pics and read): Page 4-6: Studying Daniel. Question on the back – “Lord, what would cheat me of you?” Page 13: Song of my heart – whatever day that was…
Page 20: Journal July 15, 2013 – 10 days in Costa Rica
Page 21-22: Gardening Plan Page 34: Differentiating vowel sounds with one of my students here Page 36: List of needs for the Sunday School kids in Cristo Rey Page 37: Things to remember to do from first day at the coffee shop Page 38: Notes from an author guest speaker two summers ago in MN Page 43: Verses that slayed me Page 47: Planning for English Camp Page 58-64: Preparation notes for Sunday School teacher training course at Cristo Rey Page 67: Prayer requests from last summer Page 69: Study of the Gospels…what do they say about salvation? Page 77: Kids’ drawings from church in Costa Rica, before they could understand any of it
Last Page: English appointments and a lunch menu bookmark from the coffee shop
There you have it, in snapshots – tells a lot about me, I think. Anyone else have one of these notebooks? What is Your Composition? I’d love to know. Better yet, maybe soon enough you could show me in person – like over a great cup of coffee or a glass of red wine. I’m taking reservations – we’ll be “home” in a few weeks.
This is priceless!!! And by God’s grace alone – the whole is so much MORE than the sum of its parts (just like your composition book is). BTW, when you’re home I’ll have my people call your people and we’ll do something that people whose people call people do! LOVE!!!
Thanks for sharing. Fun to read.
